The Raft Building Competition

Winning the second prize was quite deserving for someone doing it for the first time..... My experiences turned into a beautiful FABLE.

Long long time ago, in the 1990s, there was a small 8 year old kid whose name was Saanika who just for the second time had gone alone for a school trip out of Singapore to Belum, Penang in Malaysia. She was mixed with emotions. She was excited that she was going to go for a school trip, at the same time, she was sad and nervous. Nervous as she was tensed that how she would manage in the trip without her parents. She was sad because she did not want to go to the trip without her parents. Her parents and she were crying a lot. She did have fun in the trip but some moments were not of fun. Some things of fun were such as the fishing and the raft building and riding competition. She loved the raft competition. The raft competition was basically from her houseboat to a sandy shore, collecting a rock and then coming back to the houseboat. This process repeated twice!!

There were about 10 people in 1 team. Wow!! That is a lot!!! Saanika’s team had Miyo, Nanami, Seoyoung, Yuina, China, Ori, Yu, Thea and herself. We were really hyper. For the raft building competition, her team came the second place. She was happy. She thought that everyone worked quite hard and achieved that position. The prizes were good but she could not have it as she was vegetarian and there was nothing vegetarian in it. Sooooooo Sad…..

She saw many people arguing that what another team was doing was wrong or was a foul. So for example Meg’s team, they were using their legs to row the raft where we had to use the bamboo stick. There were many other small arguments but she was happy that her team came the second.
