Here we were trying to get to know what we were going to to do for the half day. I payed attention. They told that first of all we will be heading to the Orang Asli Village once again (this was the second day. We also went on the first day to the village). What we were going to do was….. First meeting the people. Then we were going to plant coconut seeds to help them in planting. It was quite fun. I was with Miyo, Nanami, Yuina and Seoyoung. They were quite nice. They were friendly in nature. Before planting, we were given options of how we wanted it to be done. Whether we wanted to do it with our hands or a shovel. Miyo then said, "Come on guys, let's do it with a shovel. You guys surely don't want your hands to het dirty right?" We all nodded and agreed to her "fact". After planting, we were going to have interactions with the cute kids of the Orang Asli Tribe. It was hard getting along with them because they did not understand what we were telling them. Slowly and gradually, they started understanding me and understood what my group and I were saying.

Planting Trees for the Tribe
That was my group. They were really friendly and nice. The one digging is Miyo, the one in the purple top is Seoyoung and the one in the blue top (which is not seen) is Nanami and Yuina was playing with a cat that she found in the village.

Trying to teach her but not working.Screen_Sho..12_23_41_pm.png
These kids were not able to understand what we were trying to tell them.

Our efforts did not go in vain. She understood it and us. We were happy.

The Speedboat Ride

Wind, no wind? Amazing, not Amazing? Super, Not really? The scientific LAB REPORT will explain.

The Speedboat Ride. It is of no worth to go to Malaysia without having a speedboat ride to travel in the man-made river of Belum which is 4 times of the size of Singapore. Belum. Belum is the world’s oldest forest reserve existing. This is where the only tribe, Orang Asli Tribe lives.

Screen_Sho.._8_44_15_pm.png

The speedboat ride is also worth. You can roam around in the river having fun with the lovely wind and also going for bird watching. There are totally about 316 known bird species in Belum. A few of them is for examples the Hornbills, Eagles, Parrots, etc.
Now the question is that what all you need for this ride. First of all, you need your backpack and a group ready to go for the ride. You need life jackets too. Otherwise you are not allowed to go in the boat. If you have all these things, you are fit to go to the speedboat ride and have fun in the boats. Uuuuugh….. TOO MANY INSECTS. They are awful.

Screen_Sho.._8_46_09_pm.png

Where do you start? Truly telling, there is no start in the ride. If you are living in a houseboat, you can start from the place where you are living. One thing you could start from in my opinion is the man-made river damp.

Screen_Sho.._8_47_07_pm.png

This speedboat ride is something that everyone will have a lot of fun in. It is the trip where you will have all the wind and it relaxes you a lot and rests your mind. I went there, and I had a really fun time. It was an amazing trip to have fun in a ride of the speedboat. It gives you a lot of relaxation and keeps your mind out of stress. The speedboat ride gave me a lot of wind and I was happy (though I could not see anything with the wind as my hair was coming in front of me again and again).

Through the speedboat ride, I learned a lot of AMAZING facts about the river. One of them was that the river was man-made. Then I learned that the size of this river was 4 times of Singapore!!! Oh My God!! That is so big! If that is just the river, how much would Malaysia be??!! I learned that there are certain things in Belum which make you jolly like this ride and there are some which will make you cry and frustrated (My trek with leeches was one of them…. Will be talked about later).

Along with this there are a few things that you should avoid and somethings that you should not. You should avoid wearing sandals or slippers or something like that. You could wear sports shoes instead. You should be having insect repellent spray with you to spray of any bugs or grossy insects you see. You should avoid going on the edges of the boat so that you won’t fall. But always remember to get your lifejackets before going inside one of the boats…..

The Raft Building Competition

Winning the second prize was quite deserving for someone doing it for the first time..... My experiences turned into a beautiful FABLE.

large_Screen_Sho.._9_29_22_pm.png

Long long time ago, in the 1990s, there was a small 8 year old kid whose name was Saanika who just for the second time had gone alone for a school trip out of Singapore to Belum, Penang in Malaysia. She was mixed with emotions. She was excited that she was going to go for a school trip, at the same time, she was sad and nervous. Nervous as she was tensed that how she would manage in the trip without her parents. She was sad because she did not want to go to the trip without her parents. Her parents and she were crying a lot. She did have fun in the trip but some moments were not of fun. Some things of fun were such as the fishing and the raft building and riding competition. She loved the raft competition. The raft competition was basically from her houseboat to a sandy shore, collecting a rock and then coming back to the houseboat. This process repeated twice!!

Screen_Sho.._9_31_11_pm.png

There were about 10 people in 1 team. Wow!! That is a lot!!! Saanika’s team had Miyo, Nanami, Seoyoung, Yuina, China, Ori, Yu, Thea and herself. We were really hyper. For the raft building competition, her team came the second place. She was happy. She thought that everyone worked quite hard and achieved that position. The prizes were good but she could not have it as she was vegetarian and there was nothing vegetarian in it. Sooooooo Sad…..

Screen_Sho.._9_33_15_pm.png

She saw many people arguing that what another team was doing was wrong or was a foul. So for example Meg’s team, they were using their legs to row the raft where we had to use the bamboo stick. There were many other small arguments but she was happy that her team came the second.

The Leech Trek

The way the leeches tortured all of us was horrible..... A genre of GREAT ADVENTURE, also the CHILD'S VIEW with little details will show it to you.

rain

large_Screen_Sho..10_28_11_pm.png

The Leech Trek. The trek which was the most horrifying, disgusting and scary trek for every single one in Yr 9. We went through the tracks, into the deep green jungle, making a few leech friends. These leech friends were soooo disgusting. For me, one of them crawled up to on my chest. First we were really scared. I did not touch even a single grey rock. I was scarred. Would one of those grey rocks covered with small green grass might have a leech!!! We went over 2 bridges and into the deep jungle starting our so-called “fun” trek.

Screen_Sho..10_29_19_pm.png

We were walking on wet, sandy, brown-black mud. It was so gross. I got 2 thin, black stretchy leeches on my shoe. I almost burst out into tears. Luckily an instructor to my left, wearing a light cream coloured t-shirt and a brown pant, came to the rescue!! He removed the brown, stubborn leech. I was so relieved when the first leech came of. Then to my surprise, there was another one on my shoe!! I was scared. This time I was far too scared to even muster up courage to look at it the second time. Then I kept on moving through the dense jungle full of noisy chirping birds. Suddenly, the leech was gone. I saw it somewhere in my shoe. Then while I was walking really fast, the leech just flew off me.

The worst fact about leeches are that you don’t even know that they are sucking your red blood from the parts of our body. I was at a point of time shocked. My friend, Yu who is very gentle in nature and also calm, she got a leech bite on her belly button, right in the middle.

On the other hand, one of the instructor, he was tall, and brave, got a leech on him and was not scared!! I was sooo in shock and surprised that how is he not scared. Then I remembered, that he is used to all these insect and muddy situations.

Screen_Sho..10_31_37_pm.jpg

You won’t believe me, in Malaysia, I noticed that I got 4 horrifying leech bites but when I came back to my home sweet home, I noticed that I had got 6 horrifying leech bites.

I had 2 on my right leg, one huge, and one small, right next to my right knee on the right side. 2 really small ones on my left leg near my left knee on the right side of the knee. 2 on the chest. Same situation. One big and one small. Both on the right side of my chest.

Before heading back to the houseboat, we had another small rest at a rest place. It looked as if it was made by wood where over there people saw all their leech bites oozing with a lot of red blood. People started crying. Many people got leeches inside their shoes. Some on the the shoe soles some of the top, hanging, looking for blood.
That was the rest place:
Screen_Sho..10_32_35_pm.png

The way it looks for blood is really interesting. From the end with its hundreds and thousands of teeth, it bites into the body. And with the other end, it tries to find blood to suck better and ever crawls in the same way. It is a really interesting way.

The Squeaky Beds

How all those beds kept annoying us. A PARODY of the song Sugar by Maroon 5.

rain

Boing! suggests,the squeaky beds
Of the houseboats, houseboats in Belum.
Sounding no fun at all.
Loud, Noisy, Irritating, Frustrating
But couldn’t do a single, single thing to stop it now.

Couldn’t sleep a single night,
Nor me nor my friends.
No one knew what to do,
But couldn’t get out of the room
To share our problems with others.
I don’t think anyone likes these beds

Squeaky Beds!!
Go away!!
I wanted to stay peacefully.
I’m still here cuz,
It is a school trip.
Or I would have gone ages ago.
You know you are
IRRITATING!
You know you are
FRUSTRATING!
NOISY!
And obviously too LOUD!
Squeaky Beds!!
Go away!!
Won’t you leave me alone now??!!

Wanna go back home.
I need it now,
These beds have got me sleepless, sleepless,
I need my home.
Going to the rooms,
Just before bedtime
It makes me so vexed, so vexed
To go to sleep

Couldn’t sleep a single night,
Nor me nor my friends.
No one knew what to do,
But couldn’t get out of the room
To share our problems with others.
I don’t think anyone likes these beds

Squeaky Beds!!
Go away!!
I wanted to stay peacefully.
I’m still here cuz,
It is a school trip.
Or I would have gone ages ago.
You know you are

You know you are
FRUSTRATING!
NOISY!
And obviously too LOUD!
Squeaky Beds(Squeaky Beds)!!
Go away(go away)!!
Won’t you leave me alone now(now)??!!

Yeah
All those squeaky beds
Should be gone away.
Never coming back,
Unless anyone wants it to come back
But I got to face the truth,
There ain’t no other way!
Cuz beds you’re squeakier than the squeakiest one in the world.

I’m never coming back,
To all those squeaky bedrooms.
Don’t make me all so tensed,
No headaches please,
That’s my…

Squeaky Beds!!
Go away!!
I wanted to stay peacefully(peacefully).
I’m still here cuz(still here),
It is a school trip(it’s a school trip).
Or I would have gone ages ago.
Na na-na na na You know you are
IRRITATING!
You know you are
FRUSTRATING!

And obviously too LOUD!
Squeaky Beds(Squeaky Beds)!!
